Medication management shouldn't be this difficult.

As prescriptions increase, routines change and more than one person becomes involved in someone's care, keeping track of medication can quickly become complicated. Behind every prescription is a person trying to remember what to take, when to take it and when it needs replacing — often with a family member or carer trying to help.

That is the everyday work MediMate aims to make easier.

Why MediMate Was Born

It started around our kitchen table.

My husband Roger was taking an increasing number of medications, and although he wanted to remain independent, managing them became more complicated than either of us had imagined.

It wasn't simply about remembering tablets. It was remembering which medicines to take before breakfast, which after meals, making sure prescriptions were ordered before they ran out, and trying to support him — without making him feel dependent.

As Roger's health journey became more complex, I realised that medication doesn't just affect the person taking it. It affects the whole family. That experience inspired MediMate.

Scanned text and AI output can contain errors. Always check against the original document, pharmacy label and clinician’s instructions. Alerts can be delayed or missed; an unrecorded dose does not prove it was missed.

You are at the centre of MediMate. Your Care Circle is made up of the people you choose and authorise to support you — which may include family members, carers and, where appropriate, healthcare professionals and care facility staff.

Choose what a supporter can view. Manage care is a separate permission that allows practical help with medication, appointments and records. You can review and withdraw sharing. You remain at the heart of your care.

A separate workspace for resident-approved care and named staff is being prepared and tested. Facility onboarding and permissions need to be checked before use.

For doctors and pharmacies: patients can share selected records, medication lists and refill requests. Dedicated professional portals and automatic clinical-system integrations are not part of the current pilot offer.

Is MediMate ready for general public use?

The individual app is an invitation-only pilot. Request access below. MediMate reviews each request before approving a registration email and sending access details. Submitting a request does not create an account or guarantee a place. Care Facility testing is a separate workstream. No public launch date is announced here.

Can a supporter mark medication as taken?

Yes, when the person has granted Manage care. The supporter can record one dose or select several medicines actually taken. The record identifies who recorded it.

Who sees my report explanation?

Optional AI processing requires separate consent. An explanation stays private until you review and approve sharing it. It explains the written report; it does not interpret scan images, diagnose or replace professional advice.

How do recording, stock and refill requests work?

Scan a pharmacy label or enter medication manually, then check every field against the original. Record only doses actually taken. Recording a dose adjusts tracked stock; dose history lets an authorised person correct an accidental tick. A duplicate-name warning can help identify an existing entry. A refill request still needs the pharmacy to confirm supply.

What do Care Circle alerts tell me?

An alert means a scheduled dose has not been recorded as taken; it does not prove the medicine was missed. Alerts can be delayed or missed. Grouped alerts and optional lock-screen names are being checked during the pilot. Use the person’s latest schedule to review the details.

Can I record a consultation?

Consultation recording, transcription and optional AI summaries require the relevant permissions and consent. Check with everyone involved before recording. Review a summary against the original before sharing. Confirm the current availability with MediMate during onboarding.

What about privacy and emergencies?

You choose who can access your information and what they can do. Optional AI processing may take place outside South Africa. Review the pilot Privacy Notice and AI choices in the app. MediMate is not an emergency service or a substitute for a medication administration procedure.
